Tereasa Sorensen: I am a dental assistant and have been one since 2006. I love what I do for work. I have chosen not to pursue a career as a dental hygienist because I personally can't stomach picking things out of people's teeth. Now the bright side of being a certified dental assistant while going to school for hygiene you will already have you foot in the door at an office and you will make decent money while in school. Not something most people can say. You can also get a feel for the dental field and figure out if it's for you, if you haven't already dabbled in it already. If you can't work at the office you work at while in school after you graduate you will at least be in the dental field and you will know who is looking for a hygienist. Good luck with your schooling and career in the wonderful dental field!...Show more
Jene Licausi: They are 2 absolutely one of a kind professions, with absolutely one of a kind coaching. Taking Dental Assisting first will ad! vantage you in that you are going to be operating within the area quicker, and you are going to have a far bigger information of dental terminology. As some distance as utilising your aiding education to head closer to hygiene... nope. The satisfactory factor to do could be to speak to an consultant on the college you could be attending. They might be ready to deliver you an notion of wait-record, activity customers, and in which to start together with your experiences....Show more
Filiberto Amauty: I'm currently a senrior in a dental hygiene program and had no previous experience in the dental field at all! There are also girls in my class who were previously dental assistants and it did not seem to help them too much. They knew a lot of the products used with restorative but that was the only knowledge that helped them and you quickly pick up clinical skills that will put you at the same level. Not going to sugar coat it, it is a very stressful program and is full t! ime 8-5. I have fellow class mates who have children and have ! survived, if you're determined and willing to put in the work you can do it. Finding your own patients with certain requirements is also very frustrating and stressful....Show more
