Karl Jantzen: I bought a bar of Zote soap and have been using it for laundry for the past few months. I tried the homemade laundry soap recipe and it works really well. It calls for 1/2 cup washing soda, 1/2 cup borax, and 1 cup grated soap. However, since you have made me aware that borax is toxic, I believe in the future I shall omit the borax and washing soda and just use 1 cup baking soda and 1 cup grated soap.
Brenton Cornwall: Baking soda will freshen clothes, but it doesn't do much to remove dirt. You can use regular dish washing liquid as a laundry detergent, tho. You don't need much dish washing liquid...only about 3 or 4 tablespoons for most loads. Adjust to your needs.And, you're right, borax is toxic.-...Show more
Gaynell Pizzaro: the thing about borax, it is used to kill fleas and other insects, it can kill the microorganisms in the septic tank...a lot of recipes call for borax because it is a good booster and deoderizer, and as long as it i! s rinsed out there should be no problems, but still....I just wouldnt feel comfortable.
