Raleigh Lufkin: Heat is the worst enemy of any electronics. Placing your tv above the fireplace, especially if you are using the fire place would emit heat to the tv. Tv should be placed so that it is also at eye level when watching the tv, any higher could put a strain on your neck. Your other problem would be wires going to the tv, they will be an eye sight soreness. You could hide the wire by placing them inside the wall. If you don't know how to do this, then leave it up to the experts. Best Buy can install the tv and hide the wire for you, I would ask for a cost estimate first. Not sure where you live but the company i used was dhdpros.com | Private companies will never rip you off and generally use the greatest technology. (my house uses a ! program called "Control 4" i can turn off my kids' bedroom lights / TVs from the basement.)And also, the fire won't affect it. Branden Roddick: I install exactly this kind of thing for a living and best buy is the worst place you could go they will rip you off for sub standard work. Hire a professional. If you are in my area Get a quote I guarantee I am cheaper and I do better work. I can also mount that tv so that everything will work perfect. if you want it over your fire place it can be down with out injuring your neck if you use the appropriate mount. Marcelina Schossow: I have to agree that over a fireplace that gets! any use is a bad idea. However, if you want to do it, you can! hire an electrician to put the wiring in the walls. You want at least 1 hdmi cable from the tv to your a/v receiver and a power outlet. The dvd, cable box, etc. would go in a stand or cabinet on the ground (most people choose a corner). It's also a good idea to have the electrician run your speaker wires inside the walls so that they are concealed. Of course, you can always go with a custom installer who will do everything including mounting the tv and speakers and will setup your system properly but will typically cost more than an electrician and your do-it-yourself work for the mounting.One last thing, you can buy hdmi cables online for less $ (I like monoprice.com but there are several others).
