Charissa Bichsel: You are mixing genealogy which is the researching of family trees via cited primary records ,these are records written at the time or very close to the event with the Bible which is certainly not a primary record by any stretch of the imagination, it is Religion stories written as moral and religious 'teachings' by over 40 different writers hundreds of years a! fter the dates put in and these are certainly not cited...so you would be better to put your question in the religion category as religious belief doesn't magically make it fact and genealogy is not about guesswork....Show more

Delmy Varano: Some races trace the mother's line, I think the Indians do (I could be wrong) But most trace the father's line, since the mother usually takes his name upon marriage & that is the name of the offspring. Mary's genealogy is the only female line listed in the Bible & for good reason. Note Joseph was Jesus' step father & that line shows he was in line for Kingship. With Mary's line it was for Priesthood- through both lines Jesus inherited the title of King & Priest. Scripture records go back to when God made the promise to His servants about the Messiah. I think your question was why is one line longer than the other? because people have children at different ages. One may have been 15 years old & then been a grandparent at 30 years! old.
